Introduction

Follows the introduction of the new Designs Act and developments in Europe in relation to the new Community Design Right and the Unregistered Design Right the Copyright Association and the Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys presented a series of two joint seminars on Design Law in Ireland: Recent Updates. The second seminar took place on Thursday 24th October 2002 at the Distillery Building, Church Street, Dublin 7.

Speaker Profiles

Professor Robert Clark

Professor Clark, Faculty of Law UCD, is an acknowledged expert in IT and intellectual property law and is a consultant with Arthur Cox Solicitors.

Shane Smyth

Partner FR Kelly & Co, Solicitor, European Patent and Trade Mark Attorney and co-author of Intellectual and Property Law in Ireland.

Andrew Parkes

Partner, Tomkins & Co, European Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys. Andrew speaks and writes on a wide variety of intellectual property related issues.

Vincent Landers

Assistant Principal Officer, IP Unit, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. Vincent has spent the last 5 years in the Intellectual Property Unit of the Department. He was a member of the team that drafted the Copyright and Related Rights Act, 200. He headed the drafting team for the Industrial Designs Act, 2002 and the Industrial Designs Regulations, 2002. He currently holds responsibility for industrial design and trade marks policy and legislation at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
